Total Eclipse Extravaganza - A Celestial Party to Remember

On Monday, something amazing happened in the sky — a total solar eclipse. It spanned from Mexico to Canada, passing through the United States from Texas to Maine.

Yes, it was fascinating, right?

Well, maybe if you are from those places. For us living in Europe, we could only take a look at it over the internet, watching all those streams and videos.

In some places, it lasted up to four and a half minutes — but hey, we can review it as many times as we want on YouTube, ?

During a solar eclipse, the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun, making it dark for a little while.

Well, one direct look at the sun could make it darker for the rest of your life, even without the moon (and especially without it) obscuring it, but in most cases, it is not that wise to try that.

Lots of people, more than a million, went to these places where they could see the total eclipse.

They gathered in cities like Dallas and Montreal to watch. A million people who had nothing better to do!

And as it is so rare, I would be there myself if I were somewhere around, but as I was not, I can only envy them :D

It was a rare chance because the last time this happened in the United States was in 2017, and it won’t happen again until 2044.

Well, it is almost as rare as listening to the truth spoken by politicians, so I understand that interest.

But, people did more than just watch the eclipse — they had parties and tried to break some crazy records.

Yeah, people will find a reason to have a party for anything.

Will the sun rise?

Yes?

Let’s have a party!

Some even danced under pictures of the Earth, Sun, and Moon. And let me ask, could they not do this even without such an event?

But hey, as I said, I fully understand the blast people have around all of this. Although personally, I would use such a rare opportunity for more interesting stuff, only if I would know how.

But luckily (ehem), there are much cleverer people around the world than I am (yup, most of them).

Some scientists used this opportunity to learn more about the Sun. They set up instruments near Dallas to study its outer atmosphere. I ean outher atmosphere of the Sun, not the Dallas.

They wanted to understand things like its temperature and magnetic field, especially since the Sun was more active than usual. At least this is what I have read, so pardon me if they had different intentions, like to have scientific-party themselfs and just needed an excuse.

And, you know what? I think that it was the Sun ithself that wanted to have a party, so it was more active just because it was eclipsed! Well, maybe it’s shy and wants to rave when no one sees it!

This eclipse was also a chance to see big eruptions of stuff from the Sun called coronal mass ejections. (and no, I will not use the opportunity to say something about mass ejections here).

So, scientists hoped to learn more about them to protect our technology from getting damaged.

And I would say, based their observations, they will think of mounting lead umbrellas over all our electronics — this would definitely work, or not?

The eclipse made people think about how big and beautiful the universe is.

Well, at least I hope so, as many do not see or think farther than the edge of their porch.

But seeing the Moon cover the Sun reminded at least some of us of the wonders beyond our planet, sparking curiosity and wonder.

A wonder if there could be more events like this that will cause people to have a party instead of throwing rocks at each other.

Just hope that the Sun will not have too hard of a hangover and that it will smile on us instead of being grumpy for a week or so…

Hi there! Could you help me write more stories like this? If you enjoyed this one, sharing it with your friends or posting it on social media would be amazing! ✨
